Job summary

Day Habilitation Program Assistant (part-time)

The Special Services Department at JCC MetroWest in West Orange, NJ is searching for a part-time Day Habilitation Program Assistant. The Day Habilitation Program Assistant will work alongside a program leader with a group of adults having special needs in a dynamic community center setting by implementing activities that motivate participants and strengthen their social and life experiences. Paid training is required prior to starting work and daily documentation is required on each workday. Day Habilitation Program Assistants are supervised by the Special Services Assistant Director and the Day Habilitation Program Leader.

SCHEDULE:

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist in implementation of activities of all program activities
• Maintain an effective system of group management that encourages participants to engage in appropriate interactions with peers and work towards individual outcomes
• Communicate regularly with the Group Leader regarding needs for materials and supplies to support the activities
• Model appropriate interactions and assist participants to interact with others and engage in program activities.
• Assist in taking daily attendancewhen needed
• Report ALL illnesses or injuries to the Group Leader.
• Escort participants to and from activities throughout the building
• Provide supervision to ensure safety for all participants
• Document for assigned participants each day using the Formstack platform
• Attend staff meetings and staff training as indicated
• Complete required annual training
• Other responsibilities as assigned

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AND INFORMATION:

• The use of cell phones and other electronics should be kept to a minimum
• Staff should dress in a casual and professional manner

Skills required:

Strong and empathetic communications skills. Experience working with adults with special needs preferred but not required
