Job summary

Davenport Machine, Inc. in New York is seeking a skilled Machinist to operate Davenport multi-spindle screw machines, read blueprints, and verify dimensions with gauges to ensure parts meet specs.

You will perform tool changes, adjust controls, troubleshoot machining problems with engineering, and maintain a clean, safe work area using 5S methods.

Qualifications

• Reads blueprints and job orders to determine dimensions, tolerances, and output per hour.
• Verifies conformance using gauges (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, comparators).
• Performs tool changes and adjusts controls to maintain tolerances.
• Maintains clean work area using 5S techniques and practices.

Responsibilities

• Operate assigned machine(s) by production foreman.
• Read blueprints and job orders for dimensions, tolerances, and throughput.
• Verify machined parts with gauges and inspection tools.
• Perform tool changes as required.
• Adjust machine controls to maintain specifications within tolerances.
• Clean machine, tooling, and parts; remove chips.
• Perform minor machine maintenance as needed.
• Collaborate with Production Leader and Engineering to improve productivity and troubleshoot issues.
• Maintain 5S cleanliness in the work area.

Davenport Machinist / Setup / Troubleshoot

About the job: Operate Davenport multi-spindle screw machines equipped with automatic indexing and feeding mechanism to perform series of machining operations on metal bar stock.

Opportunities for growth: Training is provided to further the knowledge of the operator including the use of a variety of tool holders and attachments. Advanced training is also provided for troubleshooting and setting up a Davenport multi-spindle screw machine.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

• Operate assigned machine(s) by production foreman
• Read blueprint and job order for such information as dimensions, tolerances and number of work pieces to be machined per hour.
• Verify conformance of machined parts to specifications using a variety of gauges including; micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, comparators, etc.
• Perform tool changes as required.
• Adjust machine controls and changes tool settings to keep dimensions within specified tolerances.
• Clean machine, tooling and parts and removes chips from machine when necessary.
• Perform minor machine maintenance as required.
• Interact with Production Leader and Engineering staff to improve productivity and troubleshoot machining problems.
• Maintain cleanliness of work area utilizing 5S techniques and methods.

Minimum Experience: 3 years operating Davenport multi-spindle screw machine with related factory experience.
