Job summary

Gates Albert, Inc. in North Chili, NY seeks a Davenport Machinist / Setup / Troubleshoot to operate Davenport multi-spindle screw machines, read blueprints, and produce precision parts to spec.

You will perform tool changes, set up controls, verify dimensions with gauges, participate in problem solving with Engineering, and maintain 5S in the work area. Training is provided for advanced troubleshooting and tooling.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of related factory experience operating Davenport multi-spindle screw machines.
• Experience reading blueprints and job orders to determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Familiarity with gauging tools and inspection methods to verify part conformance.

Responsibilities

• Operate Davenport machine(s) as assigned by production foreman.
• Read blueprints/job orders for dimensions, tolerances, and throughput per hour.
• Verify part conformance using gauges (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.).
• Perform tool changes and adjust machine controls to maintain tolerances.
• Clean machine, tooling, and parts; remove chips as needed.
• Perform minor machine maintenance and assist in troubleshooting with Engineering staff.
• Maintain clean work area using 5S practices.

Davenport Machinist / Setup / Troubleshoot

About the job: Operate Davenport multi-spindle screw machines equipped with automatic indexing and feeding mechanism to perform series of machining operations on metal bar stock.

Opportunities for growth: Training is provided to further the knowledge of the operator including the use of a variety of tool holders and attachments. Advanced training is also provided for troubleshooting and setting up a Davenport multi-spindle screw machine.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

• Operate assigned machine(s) by production foreman
• Read blueprint and job order for such information as dimensions, tolerances and number of work pieces to be machined per hour.
• Verify conformance of machined parts to specifications using a variety of gauges including; micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, comparators, etc.
• Perform tool changes as required.
• Adjust machine controls and changes tool settings to keep dimensions within specified tolerances.
• Clean machine, tooling and parts and removes chips from machine when necessary.
• Perform minor machine maintenance as required.
• Interact with Production Leader and Engineering staff to improve productivity and troubleshoot machining problems.
• Maintain cleanliness of work area utilizing 5S techniques and methods.

Minimum Experience: 3 years operating Davenport multi-spindle screw machine with related factory experience.
