Job summary

A technology staffing firm seeks a Datacenter Technician for a direct hire role in Ashburn, VA. This position requires full onsite work and focuses on server upgrades and hardware management. Responsibilities

• Perform server upgrades including RAM, CPU, and hard drives.
• Replace components up to motherboard level.
• Process RMA for hardware components.
• Build servers from chassis up.
• Use inventory hardware components worth approximately $5–6M.
• Conduct rack and stack activities.
• Install and move servers.
• Use server lift equipment.
• Verify port activity.
• Run and organize patch cables.
• Access console periodically to switches.
• Interact with Equinix data center staff.
• Conduct occasional circuit testing.

Encore Talent Solutions has partnered with a client in the Ashburn, VA area to identify a Datacenter Technician on a DIRECT HIRE opening! This role will require full onsite work at their Ashburn, VA location

• Work hours would be 8:30a-5:00p ET
• There would be a shared on-call rotation with two other technicians (but it is a very low call volume)
• Client pays benefit cost (around a 5k savings/yr)

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Server upgrades including RAM, CPU, and hard drives
• Component replacement up to motherboard level
• RMA processing for hardware components
• Building servers from chassis up
• Using inventory hardware components (approximately $5–6M worth of inventory)
• Rack and stack activities
• Server installation and movement
• Use of server lift equipment
• Verifying port activity
• Running and organizing patch cables
• Occasional console access to switches
• Interacting with Equinix data center staff
• Occasional circuit testing

Ticket Volume

• Busy: ~10 tickets
• Maximum: ~15 tickets (usually before holidays)
• Ticketing system is email-based and uses Kayako

Key Must-Have Skills

• Experience working in a data center environment
• Server hardware experience (building/upgrading servers)
