Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience engineering and supporting NoSQL database platforms in production environments.
• Hands-on MongoDB, Cassandra, and Redis with deployment, replication, and recovery.
• Strong Linux administration and automation scripting using Python, Shell, IaC tools.
• Experience with self-managed or on-premises database environments and disaster recovery.

Responsibilities

Kforce's client has an exciting contract-to-hire opportunity for a Database Engineer III. This is a hybrid position that works remote primarily with onsite work in San Antonio, TX as needed. Summary: We are seeking a hands-on NoSQL Database Engineer to design, build, automate, and support enterprise-scale database platforms. This is an engineering-focused role for someone who enjoys building database infrastructure from the ground up, not simply performing routine database administration. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting self-managed, on-premises database environments and possess strong technical expertise across databases, Linux, storage, networking, automation, monitoring, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, and performance optimization. Key Responsibilities:

• Design, deploy, configure, and support self-managed NoSQL database platforms
• Build and maintain highly available, scalable, and resilient database environments
• Support production operations, including: Replication and high availability; Backup and recovery; Disaster recovery; Monitoring and alerting; Capacity planning; Performance tuning and troubleshooting; Patching and upgrades; Storage expansion and infrastructure growth
• Investigate and resolve production incidents and performance issues
• Develop automation solutions and improve operational efficiency through scripting and Infrastructure as Code practices
• Document architecture, deployment procedures, operational standards, recovery processes, and troubleshooting guides
• Collaborate with infrastructure, application development, security, and compliance teams
• Mentor junior DBAs and promote best practices across the database organization
• Participate in project meetings, design discussions, and technical initiatives

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience engineering and supporting NoSQL database platforms in production environments
• Strong hands-on expertise with: MongoDB (architecture, deployment, replication, backup/recovery, high availability, operations); Cassandra (cluster deployment, scaling, replication, performance tuning, troubleshooting); Redis (deployment, persistence, availability, monitoring, operational support)
• Experience supporting self-managed or on-premises database environments
• Experience with: Backup and recovery solutions; Disaster recovery planning and execution; Storage and networking infrastructure; Capacity planning and performance management; Production support and incident response
• Automation and scripting experience using technologies such as: Python; Shell scripting; Ansible; Terraform; Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• Strong Linux administration skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Neo4j Graph or other NoSQL platforms
• Experience mentoring technical team members and providing database leadership
• Demonstrated success building, deploying, and supporting database infrastructure rather than solely performing routine DBA activities
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to connect database requirements with broader infrastructure, application, security, and operational needs
• Proven ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt in a fast-paced environment

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
