Job summary

Huxley in Texas is seeking a hands-on Database Engineer III to design, build, and support enterprise-grade NoSQL database platforms. The ideal candidate will manage production environments, collaborate with infrastructure, development, security, and compliance teams, and help drive modern NoSQL adoption.

You will design, deploy, and support self-managed on-premises databases, mentor junior DBAs, implement automation with Ansible, Terraform, Python, and IaC, and ensure high availability, disaster

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience supporting and engineering enterprise database platforms.
• Hands-on experience with MongoDB, Cassandra and Redis.
• Experience designing, deploying and supporting self-managed or on‑premises database infrastructure.
• Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
• Automation and scripting using Ansible, Terraform, Python and Shell.

Job description

We are seeking a hands-on Database Engineer III to help design, build, implement, and support enterprise-grade NoSQL database platforms. This role is ideal for an engineer who has deep experience with database infrastructure and enjoys building and supporting production environments rather than performing only routine database administration. The successful candidate will play a key role in the adoption and support of modern NoSQL technologies while collaborating with infrastructure, development, security, and compliance teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, configure, and support self-managed and on-premises NoSQL database platforms.


• Build and maintain highly available, scalable, and resilient database environments.


• Administer MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, and related database technologies in production environments.


• Perform backup and recovery, disaster recovery planning, replication management, performance tuning, capacity planning, monitoring, and troubleshooting.


• Support database platform upgrades, patching, storage expansion, and incident resolution.


• Develop and maintain automation solutions using Ansible, Terraform, Python, Shell scripting, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.


• Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, architecture diagrams, and support standards.


• Collaborate with developers, infrastructure engineers, security teams, and other stakeholders to ensure database platforms meet business and technical requirements.


• Mentor junior DBAs and contribute to the organization’s NoSQL database strategy and best practices.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience supporting and engineering enterprise database platforms.


• Strong hands-on experience with MongoDB, Cassandra, and Redis.


• Experience designing, deploying, and supporting self-managed or on-premises database infrastructure.


• Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting experience.


• Expertise in high availability, replication, disaster recovery, backup and recovery, monitoring, and performance optimization.


• Experience with automation and scripting tools including Ansible, Terraform, Python, and Shell scripting.


• Strong understanding of infrastructure components including storage, networking, security, and production operations.


• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multiple technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Neo4j or other NoSQL database technologies.


• Experience building scalable distributed database environments.


• Proven ability to lead technical initiatives, mentor team members, and solve complex infrastructure challenges.


• Experience working within regulated or highly controlled enterprise environments.

Location

Hybrid, primarily remote with occasional onsite work in San Antonio, Texas as needed.

Employment Type

6-Month Contract-to-Hire.
