Key Responsibilities:

1. Design, implement, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server deployments: Manage SQL environments with regular upgrades.
2. Capacity management and patching: Keep databases up-to-date and efficient.
3. Backup and recovery: Ensure databases are backed up and recoverable within RPO and RTO objectives.
4. Documentation and training: Provide documentation and training to the team and stakeholders.
5. Maintain Microsoft SQL estate: Keep the SQL estate supported as per Microsoft's end-of-life guidelines.

Person Specification

Knowledge Requirements (Essential):

• Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2016
• Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2012, 2016 DBA
• Knowledge of HA and DR options for SQL Server
• Significant experience in IM&T sector and technical areas

Desirable:

• Staff supervision skills

Qualifications (Essential):

• Master's degree or equivalent with specialist knowledge of information analysis tools

Desirable:

• UNIX
• TOGAF qualification

Professional/Training (Essential):

• Microsoft Certified Professional
• Prince2 Foundation

Experience (Essential):

• Managing database performance, security, and integrity
• Experience in large organizations
• Support software applications, troubleshooting, backup, and recovery
• Resolving complex technical issues in live systems

Contractual Requirements:

• On-call rota participation
• Valid driving license
