Job Title: Database Administrator
This position is fully remote with a requirement that the selected candidate live/relocate to within a 2-hour commute of downtown Asheville, NC.

Purpose Of The Position
Database Administrators (DBAs) are responsible for implementing and maintaining the enterprise level database environment. DBAs perform database administration which is the technical management of all database management systems and must ensure databases are available, accessible, reliable, recoverable, secure and fast. DBAs ensure this by providing a variety of technical services including installing and upgrading relational database management systems software, setting up and maintaining database security, performing database and server performance and optimization tuning, monitoring database disk space, creating database backup strategies, and creating database recovery strategies. Additionally, DBAs provide support to the Software Solutions and Operational Services divisions in IT, in the implementation and upgrades of applications, the administration of the development and test database environments, with troubleshooting and performance tuning and day to day support.
A Database Administrator I performs entry level professional information technology (IT) work installing and configuring operating system hardware and software and user application software; assists with the maintenance and repair of routine problems with system hardware and software.
DBA I: Minimum Education, Training and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field and two (2) years of experience in software support or operations. Previous experience as a Microsoft SQL Server Administrator preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A Database Administrator II performs standard level professional information technology work installing and configuring operating system hardware and software and user application software; maintains and repairs routine problems with system hardware and software.
DBA II: Minimum Education, Training and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree with course work in information security, computer science, information systems, computer engineering, or a related field; supplemented by three (3) years of experience and/or training involving Microsoft SQL Database Administrator; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.
A Database Administrator III delivers full performance professional information technology work planning and coordinating the installation and configuration of operating system hardware and software and user application software; maintaining and repairing complex problems with system hardware and software; and modifying operating system hardware and software to increase performance and meet technical design requirements.
DBA III: Minimum Education, Training and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree with course work in information security, computer science, information systems, computer engineering, or a related field; supplemented by four (4) years of experience and/or training involving Microsoft SQL Database Administrator; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.
Additional Training And Experience
Experience with MySQL preferred but not required.
Essential Functions Of The Position
Support day-to-day operational tasks including setting up backend database security, executing scripts that update production data and/or make production schema changes.
Perform operational maintenance activities such as creating database backups, index maintenance and integrity checks, and dataset restores.
Install, configure, and maintain development, test, and production environments for Microsoft SQL Server.
Monitor and manage database backups; Test back-up and recovery plans.
Maintain data standards, including adherence to HIPAA, CJIS, and PCI regulations.
Control access permissions and privileges.
Utilize tools to monitor the performance, reliability and availability of the enterprise database infrastructure.
Provide level 1 support, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis to triage support.
Provide database support for application implementations, upgrades, migrations, and ad hoc requests.
Establish the needs of users and monitor user access and security.
Participate in the installation and testing of new versions of the database management systems.
Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly.
Participate in capacity planning through the observation and remediation of storage alerts.
Communicate regularly with applications, operational, and information security staff to ensure database integrity and security.
Participate in the evaluation of 3rd party tools.
Follow database policies, processes, and standards.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of the operations, capabilities, and limitations of various computer systems and equipment.
Knowledge of current technologies, products, methods, trends, and developments in the computer field.
Meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to write queries in Structure Query Language (SQL).
Ability to act independently to resolve low-complex issues and ability to effectively communicate and collaborate on complex issues.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on projects to completion.
Ability to use small office equipment, computers, and highly technical computer applications.
Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
Ability to analyze, comprehend and apply rules and regulations and often changing policies and guidelines pertaining to data storage.
Ability to willingly accept work direction from multiple parties and work as part of a team.
