Job summary

Surescripts is seeking a Director of DataTrust and Enablement to lead governance within our Enterprise Data Platform. This role steward data policy, catalog, data quality standards, and certification, shaping governance as a platform capability.

You will own the data catalog and business glossary, drive the critical data element program, enforce data policy and HIPAA compliance, and build a cross‑functional stewardship network across technical and business teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, business administration, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or a closely related discipline, with at least 3 years leading a governance or stewardship function at an enterprise level.
• A demonstrated philosophy of governance as enablement; a track record of building governance programs that increase team velocity and data trust simultaneously (vs programs that create compliance overhead).
• Hands-on experience with Collibra or a comparable enterprise data catalog platform including stewardship workflow design, business glossary management, lineage configuration, and policy management.
• Deep familiarity with data governance frameworks (DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, or equivalent) and the ability to adapt framework concepts into a practical operating model.
• Experience defining and managing critical data element programs, including business definition ownership, certification workflows, and cross-functional stewardship.
• Strong understanding of HIPAA and healthcare data compliance requirements. Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or similarly regulated industry is strongly preferred.
• Ability to operate effectively across both technical and business audiences, translating between engineering rigor and business language without losing either audience.
• Experience building and leading teams, including hiring and developing governance professionals and data stewards.

Responsibilities

• Redefine governance as platform capability. Lead the cultural and operational shift from policy enforcement to platform enablement.
• Own the data catalog and business glossary. Lead the strategy and operation of the Collibra environment and drive adoption of the catalog as the authoritative reference.
• Define and manage the data certification program. Establish standards for certified status and the workflows to reach it.
• Lead the Critical Data Element program. Identify and govern patient identity, provider identity, drug reference data, and transaction records.
• Own data policy and compliance. Develop and enforce data policies, navigate HIPAA, and determine what can be externalized to partners.
• Build and lead the stewardship community across business and technical domains.
• Represent trust in stakeholder reporting. Translate governance metrics into business outcomes.
• Contribute to platform strategy as part of the Enterprise Data Platform leadership team.
