Job summary

SMX is seeking a Data Scientist to join our team to support a Modernized Data Science Platform for a Federal customer. The role focuses on bridging business needs with technical solutions, requirements analysis, process improvement, and data-driven decision-making to support IT transformation and modernization efforts.

Essential duties include designing Databricks-based capabilities, modifying data models, promoting code to production, and building reports from ERP data.

Qualifications

• Security clearance required: U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 6 years of related work experience.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• 5+ years of hands-on development experience with Python and PySpark.
• Experience with Dev/Ops and CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.
• Army functional knowledge with requirements elicitation, analysis, and documentation.
• Familiarity with database design and architecture (relational and non-relational).
• Ability to work cross-functionally and participate in discussions.
• Knowledge of cloud architecture (AWS/Azure).
• Proficiency with software engineering tools (estimation, issue tracking, version control, debugging).
• Proven ability to work independently without supervision.
• Proven experience in knowledge sharing (code reviews, documentation).
• Driven, self-directed personality.
• Strong sense of mission and commitment.

Responsibilities

• Design new solutions using Databricks to deliver capabilities meeting business functional requirements.
• Analyze & design modifications to existing data model solutions as needed.
• Promote code into production.
• Define test cases and verify test results to ensure solutions are functioning as designed.
• Build data models and reports using datasets from ERPs and legacy systems.
