SMX is seeking a Data Scientist to join our team supporting a Modernized Data Science Platform for a Federal customer. The role focuses on bridging business needs with technical solutions, emphasizing requirements analysis, process improvement, and data-driven decision-making to support IT transformation.

The role requires a DoD Secret clearance, a bachelor’s in CS or related field, and at least 6 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
• Security Clearance: U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance required
• 6 years of related work experience
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• 5+ years of hands-on development experience in Python and PySpark
• Dev/Ops and CI/CD pipelines using GitLab
• Army functional knowledge and experience in requirements elicitation, analysis, and documentation
• Familiarity with database design and architecture; relational and non-relational
• Ability to work cross-functionally and participate in discussions
• Knowledge of cloud architecture: AWS/Azure
• Proficiency with software engineering tools and processes (estimation, issue tracking, version control, debugging)
• Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Proven knowledge sharing and documentation skills
• Driven, self-directed personality
• Strong sense of mission and commitment to making a difference

Responsabilités

• Design new solutions using Databricks to deliver capabilities meeting business requirements
• Analyze and design modifications to existing data model solutions
• Promote code into production
• Define test cases and verify results to ensure solutions function as designed
• Build data models and reports using ERP/legacy system data
