Job summary

Brigham Young University (BYU) is hiring a Data Science Outreach Specialist (part-time, 17.5 hrs/week) to engage students, promote programs, and coordinate campus and community outreach. You will serve as a primary contact across departments, student orgs, and industry partners to enhance recruitment, retention, and program awareness.

The role emphasizes communications, website updates, event planning, and advising across Statistics and Data Science programs, with opportunities to collaborate

Data Science Outreach Specialist (part-time, 17.5 hrs/week)

The Outreach Specialist supports student engagement, program promotion, campus and community outreach, communications, and event coordination. The position coordinates outreach activities and serves as a primary point of contact among students, faculty, departments, student organizations, and industry partners to promote student engagement, recruitment and retention, and program awareness.

What you’ll do in this position:

Outreach, Recruitment & Program Promotion

• Coordinate outreach and recruitment at university, campus, and community events.
• Promote Statistics and Data Science programs, internships, research, employment, and student engagement opportunities.
• Build partnerships with faculty, departments, student organizations, and campus groups to expand interdisciplinary collaboration and program awareness.
• Serve as a program ambassador and liaison to Data Science and AI committees and related campus initiatives.

Communications, Website & Social Medi a

• Maintain and update department and program websites with accurate, engaging, and accessible content.
• Develop content highlighting programs, student and faculty accomplishments, research, career pathways, events, and opportunities.
• Create and distribute newsletters, social media content, and other communications for internal and external audiences.
• Coordinate information sharing among departments, faculty, staff, students, and college leadership.

Event Planning, Coordination & Community Engagement

• Plan and coordinate seminars, workshops, guest lectures, competitions, networking events, and other student-focused activities.
• Collaborate with departments, student organizations, industry partners, faculty, staff, and volunteers to support events.
• Maintain and promote a calendar of events relevant to Statistics and Data Science students and programs.

Student Success Support

• Connect students with appropriate academic, career, advising, and campus resources.
• Share employment, internship, mentoring, research, and professional development opportunities.
• Help students navigate university programs, resources, and services to support engagement and success.

Assessment, Data Analysis & Reporting

• Analyze program data and maintain accurate records of student and program activities.
• Collect and maintain data related to enrollment, retention, employment outcomes, participation, and student engagement.
• Prepare reports and summaries to support program assessment, planning, and decision-making.

What qualifies you for this role

Required

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate events and projects.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and other diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to rapidly learn website management tools, digital platforms, and other software.

Preferred

• Experience managing website content, social media, and other public-facing communications.
• Experience with student engagement, outreach, events, or program coordination.
• Data analysis, reporting, and program assessment skills.
• Demonstrated experience managing projects and communicating effectively with diverse audiences.

Pay Grade: 51

Typical Starting Pay: $28.50 to $37.25 an hour
