Job summary

Brigham Young University (BYU) Continuing Education is hiring a Data Analytics Developer. You will design and maintain ETL pipelines, automate data-quality tools, and integrate diverse API sources.

You’ll deliver secure, cloud-based analytics using SQL, Python, and BI tools, collaborating with stakeholders to enable informed decision-making. You’ll supervise student employees, train teams on BI solutions, and participate in accreditation and reporting activities while advancing BYU’s educational

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or relevant field or relevant experience.
• Advanced skill in Python, especially with Pandas and Plotly or Matplotlib.
• Experience using Dremio, Tableau, Power BI, Python, SQL, and Bash on Linux.
• Experience working in GitHub or other version management tools.
• Ability to solve problems collaboratively and build strong relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to electronically handle data and maintain data confidentiality.
• Demonstrated writing skills including graphical reporting elements.
• Outstanding communication skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships.
• Ability to work in an iterative and incremental development environment.
• Ability to identify and clarify business needs and translate those into analytical solutions.

Data Analytics Developer

Join BYU Continuing Education as a Data Analytics Developer and help transform data into insights that drive meaningful results. You’ll design and maintain ETL pipelines, automate data-quality tools, integrate diverse API sources, and develop secure, cloud-based analytics solutions using SQL, Python, and business intelligence technologies. Through collaboration with stakeholders, you’ll deliver innovative tools that strengthen decision-making and support BYU’s evolving educational mission.

What you do in this position:

• Creating, implementing, and managing ETL processes: Develop, automate, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain ETL pipelines that integrate data from external systems such as Canvas and Qualtrics using Python, GitHub Actions, and other tools. Update ETL scripts and workflows to address evolving business processes, platform migrations, system or schema changes, and changing Continuing Education needs.
• Enhancing data quality and improving work efficiency by streamlining and/or automating analytical workflows across CE's product and service areas. Diagnose and resolve data access, migration, collection, quality, security, and freshness issues while implementing sustainable quality assurance practices. Develop Python scripts and scalable automations that streamline recurring analytical processes and support new initiatives, systems, and departmental needs.
• Working with CE directors, product and program managers, and other stakeholders to identify pain points, needs, and opportunities to improve data workflows, quality, and access. Consult with stakeholders to define analytical requirements, key performance indicators, data sources, business needs, pain points, and opportunities for improved data integration and access. Research emerging analytics solutions, test systems, collaborate with CE IT and related teams, prepare data sources, and train stakeholders on implemented solutions.
• Supervising and training student employees. Supervise and train student employees, assess business intelligence tool usage, and develop and maintain technical documentation.
• Assist in other department processes, as needed. Conduct surveys and evaluations; support accreditation, course assessment, reporting, process documentation, flow charts, process diagrams, and user journey maps.

• 5 or more years’ related experience with data analytics or data engineering at a higher education institution.
• Experience implementing machine learning, LLMs, vector databases, and embeddings to process and analyze unstructured data.
• Exposure to graph databases, Elastic Stack, or real-time streaming (Kafka, Kinesis).
• Intermediate to advanced to expert skill in Tableau Prep & Server.
• Advanced to expert skill in the use of Qualtrics.

Pay Grade: 54T

Typical Starting Pay: $90,000 - $117,000

The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
