Job summary

Rent the Runway is seeking a hands-on Data Science Manager to lead and grow the Data Science function. You will solve high-impact ML problems, focus on personalization, and shape the future of AI-powered customer experiences. You will mentor engineers, partner with Product and Engineering, and drive scalable ML solutions.

This role combines technical leadership with hands-on model development, experimentation, and governance, to deliver measurable business outcomes and improved customer journeys.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in Data Science or related field, with 2+ years leading teams.
• BS in a quantitative field; advanced degrees are a plus.
• Experience mentoring data scientists and leading initiatives.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL for predictive modeling.
• Strong foundations in statistics, experimentation, and causal inference.
• Ability to communicate with executives and cross-functional teams.
• Experience with cloud ML platforms (GCP/AWS/Azure).

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop the Data Science team, providing technical guidance and career development.
• Define the technical direction and priorities of the Data Science function.
• Lead strategic data science initiatives with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems.
• Analyse customer, product, and inventory data to identify high-impact opportunities.
• Partner with Product and Engineering to deliver AI-powered customer experiences.
• Design, build, deploy, and improve recommendation systems and ranking models.
• Design experiments, A/B tests, and causal inference frameworks to measure impact.
• Develop customer similarity models and segmentation for personalization.
• Collaborate across Data, Product, and Engineering to deliver production-ready ML solutions.
• Shape hiring strategy and grow the DS organization.
• Communicate insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
