Job summary

National Life Group is seeking a Data Science Intern to join its AI Center of Excellence in Montpelier, VT. You will work on projects spanning traditional data science methods and emerging generative AI, gaining hands-on experience with real business challenges in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

We welcome students pursuing CS/DS with strong Python and SQL skills, plus exposure to ML frameworks.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's or master's in CS, DS, math, statistics, or related field.
• Strong Python skills with pandas and scikit-learn.
• Working knowledge of SQL for data prep and validation.
• Familiarity with Spark, PyTorch, or TensorFlow is a plus.
• Curiosity to apply AI technologies to real business challenges.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, explore, and validate datasets and features for life insurance use cases.
• Support development and evaluation of statistical and ML models.
• Design experiments and analyze business outcomes with sound methods.
• Develop reusable Python and SQL workflows with validation and docs.
• Prototype generative AI applications and assess outputs.
• Apply responsible AI and data-handling practices.
• Communicate findings to technical and business audiences.
