Job summary

OneMain Financial is seeking a Data Science Analyst to develop machine learning systems that drive underwriting insights and better customer outcomes. You will gain hands-on experience across diverse datasets and collaborate with experts in consumer lending within a close-knit, team-oriented environment.

You will work on a modern cloud-based data infrastructure, learning from data science and business leaders while contributing to impactful, real-world use cases for hardworking Americans.

Qualifications

• Current post-graduate degree student in a quantitative discipline with an expected graduation date Winter 2026 or Spring 2027.
• Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to explain technical topics and concepts to a non-technical audience.
• Proven experience (academic, athletic, volunteer, or employment) working with teams to deliver complex projects.
• Experience in use of open-source machine learning libraries (Python or R).

Responsibilities

• Apply diverse statistical and machine learning techniques to analyze datasets to solve complex business problems.
• Actively contribute to the team’s culture by sharing knowledge and helping peers.
• Develop creative technical solutions to improve underwriting decisions and customer outcomes.
• Evaluate non-traditional data sources to potentially improve underwriting decisions.
• Mine marketing data to identify new populations who would benefit from products.
• Partner with operations teams to surface data insights for branch staff.
