Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Data Reliability Engineer to protect the integrity, quality, and availability of data assets and pipelines. You will partner with the SRE team to apply data-centric reliability across the data journey, ensuring trustworthy data products for downstream consumers.

The role emphasizes data observability, automation of data validation, and runbook development. Hybrid work and multiple office locations are offered to support collaboration and reliability initiatives.

Qualifications

Authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship.
Bachelor's degree with 5+ years in infrastructure/data engineer or SRE.
3+ years in data engineering, data quality, or SRE in an enterprise data environment.
Experience with data warehousing and data lake tech (Snowflake) and cloud environments (AWS/GCP).
Hands-on ETL using SSIS/SSMS; knowledge of .NET ASP.NET is a plus.

Responsibilities

Establish and enforce Data Service Level Objectives for data products.
Implement data observability to monitor data journey end-to-end.
Collaborate with Data Engineering to embed reliability patterns in pipelines (Informatica, Python/PySpark) on EMR/Hadoop and cloud services.
Automate data validation, reprocessing, and backfilling to reduce toil.
Lead data-focused incident response and post-mortems with blameless retrospectives.
