An innovative organization focused on ocean sustainability is seeking a Data Quality Analyst to ensure high data quality across all products. This role involves conducting thorough QA checks, developing automated data quality controls, and communicating findings effectively. As part of a growing team, you will contribute to impactful projects that harness diverse datasets to promote transparency in fishing activities. If you have a passion for data quality and sustainability, this is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact in the field.
Global Fishing Watch (GFW) has been a pioneer in creating the first global dataset of fishing activity based on public vessel tracking data for nearly 10 years. Our organization develops tools and APIs to make this data actionable, expanding our data products continually.
Our data pipeline ingests diverse data sources such as AIS, satellite imagery, vessel registries, and partner data, then processes, cleans, and classifies vessel activities using algorithms and machine learning models. The outputs fuel our public products, including maps, APIs, bulk downloads, and scientific publications.
Starting from a team of 5, we have grown to about 100 staff across Research, Engineering, and Product teams. The Data Team manages data quality, documentation, accessibility, and ethical review, evolving with our growth.
The Data Quality Analyst will ensure high data quality across all GFW products by conducting QA checks, monitoring datasets like AIS, VMS, SAR, VIIRS, and more, and promoting a QA culture organization-wide. The role involves impact assessments, cross-team communication, and managing quality assurance roadmaps.
This is a remote, fixed-term (2 years), full-time position based in eligible countries. The application process includes a cover letter, interviews, and technical assessments. Salary ranges vary by location, with benefits aligned with local standards.
GFW is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We seek candidates passionate about ocean sustainability and data quality.
