Job summary

The City of New York Department of Correction is seeking a skilled Business Intelligence Analyst to transform complex operational data into actionable dashboards, automated reporting, and strategic insights. You will bridge data engineering and visual analytics to support executive leadership and agency performance monitoring.

Ideal candidates hold a master’s (or doctorate) in a relevant science or public health field and have experience translating policies into KPIs, building data pipelines

Qualifications

• Master's degree in an appropriate field and at least two years in a supervisory, administrative or research capacity for Level II.
• A doctorate plus one year of relevant experience qualifies for higher levels; alternate equivalent combinations may apply.

Responsibilities

• Write, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries across relational databases and data warehouses.
• Design, build, and maintain automated data pipelines and executive dashboards using Tableau, Dash, or Power BI.
• Establish and monitor automated data validation scripts to identify gaps or discrepancies.
• Translate workflows and policy mandates into KPIs and performance scorecards.
• Conduct exploratory and descriptive data analysis to detect trends and gaps.
• Prepare recurring executive briefings, compliance summaries, and ad-hoc extracts.
• Collaborate with IT to reconcile front-end apps with data warehouses.
• Contribute to standardizing data dictionaries, field mappings, and master data management.
• Document data extraction methodologies and reporting logic for continuity.

Education

Master's degree in a relevant field (physical, biological, environmental science or public health)

Doctorate degree in a relevant field (physical, biological, environmental or social science)
