Job summary

The New York State Department of Health in Albany is seeking a Data Analyst 1 to transform data into actionable insights, create reports and visualizations, and support decision-making to improve vital records and public health outcomes.

The role requires data mining, cleaning, modeling, NLP, and ML techniques, using analytical programming languages and visualization tools, and communicating findings to stakeholders across the department.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience in data visualization, statistical models, and data mining tools (or six years without traineeship).
• Minimum 2 years of proficiency with SQL, Python, R, or SAS and visualization software such as Tableau, SAS BI, or Power BI.
• Experience with machine learning and predictive analysis.
• Understanding of data engineering processes including data infrastructure design, pipelines, and cloud integration.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with public health research and large demographic/public health program data analysis.

• Transform data into meaningful insights, reports, and visualizations to improve New York State's vital records process and public health outcomes.
