Job summary

McKesson is seeking a Senior Manager, Data Governance to lead the implementation and ongoing operation of its data governance and data enablement capabilities. You will build and manage a team of domain data analysts and data stewards who support business domains by addressing data quality, lineage, metadata, catalog, and data product control needs.

This is a hands-on leadership role within a developing data governance function.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent experience, typically 9+ years of professional experience and 1+ years of supervisory/management experience.
• Experience implementing data governance, data management, or data enablement programs in a complex organization.
• Knowledge of data governance principles: data quality, metadata management, data lineage, data cataloging, and data stewardship.
• Experience leading people, teams, or cross-functional initiatives, including influence without direct authority.
• Experience partnering with business and tech stakeholders to translate governance policies into operational processes.
• Strong communication and change-management skills.
• Experience identifying, assessing, and coordinating data quality issues.
• Ability to analyze complex issues and coordinate teams to deliver practical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of domain data analysts and data stewards responsible for day-to-day data governance and data quality controls.
• Implement and maintain the data enablement framework, including policies, standards, and procedures for data management, data quality, lineage, metadata, and responsible data use.
• Operationalize data governance across data quality, metadata, lineage, cataloging, and data product controls.
• Partner with domain data officers, data owners, enterprise architecture, IT security, legal, compliance, and technology teams to embed governance practices into business operations.
• Align data analysts and stewards with business domains to develop subject-matter expertise and serve as a first point of contact for data-related issues.
• Guide identification, assessment, prioritization, and remediation of data quality issues with data owners and technology teams.
• Define and monitor data enablement metrics and KPIs to evaluate program effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities.
• Drive adoption by communicating the value of new data governance services and building cross-functional support.
• Promote compliance with data privacy requirements and internal data security policies (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).
• Coach and support team members with clear goals and ongoing feedback in a service-oriented leadership style.
