Job summary

Safelite in Columbus, OH is seeking a Manager of Data Engineering to modernize legacy data pipelines, oversee ETL/ELT and CI/CD implementations, and mentor a team of data engineers. You will drive scalable data architectures and collaborate with analytics and embedded analysts to ensure reliable data availability.

The role requires 4–6 years in data engineering, 1–3 years in team leadership, and strong SQL, Python, and cloud data warehouse skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, analytics, or related field.
• 4–6 years hands-on experience in a data engineering or analytics related role.
• 1–3 years managing a technical team.
• Extensive experience with ETL/ELT jobs and data pipelines using Buildkite, AWS Glue, and Informatica.
• Proficiency in cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery) and relational databases.
• Advanced SQL skills with window functions, CTEs, and nested queries.
• Experience with script-based data transformation tools (dbt, Talend).
• Ability to train and guide developers in using GitHub.
• Deep understanding of data architecture principles.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Experience managing and mentoring data teams.
• Experience with legacy data tools (mainframe, Oracle, Informatica).
• Ability to orchestrate complex workflows with Airflow or Dagster.
• Strong data governance and security practices.
• Proficiency in Python or similar languages.
• Leadership and project management experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead modernization of legacy data ingestion processes for efficiency and scalability using tools like AWS Glue or Kafka.
• Design and build scalable ETL pipelines to centralize data into a data lake.
• Develop and deploy CI/CD pipelines to automate data workflows and improve quality.
• Analyze and rebuild legacy reporting workflows using modern cloud tools for performance.
• Provide technical guidance as a player-coach and mentor data engineers.
• Collaborate with peers to align data engineering with company goals and data-driven decisions.
• Manage costs for data infrastructure and operations.
• Perform other duties and comply with policies.
