Job summary

Backblaze is seeking a Data Center Technician to manage and optimize physical data center infrastructure in Chandler, AZ. The role requires hands-on work with servers, cabling, fiber, and patch panels, plus Linux-based setup and scripting.

Ideal candidates will rotate on-call duties, handle equipment deployments, and participate in data center projects with IT, NetEng, NOC, and SRE teams, ensuring reliable, scalable operations.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in data center or server infrastructure roles.
• Hands-on knowledge of server hardware and deployments.
• Proficient with structured cabling, fiber optics, and patch panel management.
• Experience with operating systems (Linux and basic scripting). Excellent communication, time management, problem solving and organizational skills

Responsibilities

• Hardware Deployment & Maintenance: Maintain organizational infrastructure; replace drives and components; manage onsite inventory; perform RMA; setup and activate new equipment via Linux CLI.
• Data Center Operations: Be Backblaze's physical presence in Data Center Operations; on-call within an hour of facility; occasional trips; possible weekend work; shifts may include evenings/night; assist with shipping/receiving; follow data center best practices.
• Project Management: Execute server installations, migrations, upgrades, and set-ups; full-service implementations; collaborate with IT/Neteng/NOC/SRE; identify automation opportunities.
• Incident response: Respond to data center incidents and Jira tickets; troubleshoot and escalate; participate in on-call rotation.
