Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Data Center Technician in Sparks, NV to support AWS global infrastructure. You will install and maintain server racks, troubleshoot hardware, and respond to incidents to guard service availability.

Joining the team means contributing to on-call rotations, change-management, and documentation improvements while collaborating with engineers, vendors, and contractors. Lifting of up to 40 pounds and travel between locations are part of the role.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of computer networking experience.
  • 1+ years of Linux operating system experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience in computer hardware troubleshooting and repair.
  • Ability to lift and rack equipment up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain server racks and hardware components in data centers.
  • Respond to incidents affecting service availability and coordinate with engineers and vendors.

Overview

Join our dynamic AWS team as a Data Center Technician and help guard the global cloud infrastructure. You will support data center operations, maintain hardware, troubleshoot networks, and participate in an on‑call rotation to ensure continuous service availability for Amazon's global customers.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Perform server rack installations, hardware break‑fix on components, and routine network, server hardware, and operating system repairs to support AWS services.
  • Respond to operational incidents that impact service availability and act as the primary contact for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, developers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Participate in on‑call duties, scheduled maintenance, and change‑management activities.
  • Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on analysis of operational issues.
  • Help interview, train, and onboard new team members.
Physical Requirements
  • Lifting and moving materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Working in cramped or elevated locations.
  • Bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching.
  • Standing and walking for up to eight hours a day.
  • Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely and without limitation.
  • Working in an industrial environment and on shift work longer than eight hours to support 24/7 operations (night, day, weekend, holiday).
  • Travel may be required to data center locations or alternative training sites.
Essential Requirements
  • Ability to travel between data center locations as needed.
  • Willingness to work temporarily at alternative sites during training or until the assigned facility is operational.
  • Travel may vary based on business needs and facility status.
Day in the Life
  • Take ownership of technical issues brought by the customer base and engage other teams as necessary.
  • Show strong aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Solve problems at their root and understand the broader context.
  • Maintain service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting.
  • Act independently when guidance is limited.
  • Improve effectiveness through process innovation.
Basic Qualifications
  • 1+ years of computer networking experience.
  • 1+ years of Linux operating system experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience in computer hardware troubleshooting and repair.
  • Ability to lift and rack equipment up to 40 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in cramped or elevated spaces while adhering to health & safety guidelines.
  • Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system.
  • Experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies.
  • Experience in a data center environment (racking, stacking gear, cable management, hot/cold aisle containment).
  • Experience training and onboarding new team members.
