Job summary

Amazon is seeking an on-site Data Center Technician to join the AWS team, safeguarding uptime across our global cloud infrastructure. You will install, troubleshoot, and maintain server hardware and network components in fast-paced data centers, collaborating with engineers and vendors to ensure service availability.

This role requires travel between data center sites, on-call rotations, and flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of computer/server hardware troubleshooting experience or related IT experience.
  • 2+ years of computer layer 1/2 networking experience.
  • Work flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays.

Job description

Join our dynamic AWS team and become a critical guardian of global cloud infrastructure! You'll play a pivotal role in maintaining the heartbeat of the world's most innovative technology platform, ensuring seamless data center operations that power millions of businesses and services worldwide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform server rack installations and hardware break‑fix on various components.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot network issues, respond to operational incidents that impact service availability, and carry out routine network, server hardware, and operating system repairs to contribute to the overall availability of AWS services.
  • Serve as a primary contact point for both internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Perform on‑call duties and participate in scheduled maintenance and change management activities.
  • Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on analysis of operational issues.
  • Help interview, train, and onboard new team members.
Physical Requirements
  • Lifting and moving material up to 40 pounds each.
  • Working in cramped and/or elevated locations.
  • Bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching.
  • Standing and walking for up to 8+ hours a day.
  • Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely and without limitation.
  • Work in an industrial environment.
  • Work shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations (covering both night and day shifts).
Essential Requirements
  • Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed.
  • Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until assigned facility is operational.
  • Candidates must be able to travel (over 50 miles) or commute (less than 50 miles) to active data center sites as required by business needs.

Basic Qualifications
  • 2+ years of computer/server hardware troubleshooting experience, or related IT experience.
  • 2+ years of computer layer 1/2 networking (including troubleshooting and repair) experience.
  • Work flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of network design, protocols, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix Administration.
  • Bachelor's degree in an IT-related field (e.g., Computer Science, Network Engineering) or experience in professional or military IT-related roles.
  • Experience in a data center or other critical environment.
  • Experience training and onboarding of new team members.
