Job summary

Viasat is seeking a Data Center Engineer to join the Data Center Operations and Engineering team in Reston, VA, on-site. You will define, deploy, test, and support data center infrastructure for next-generation satellite ground systems, collaborating with Server and Network Engineering to integrate hardware within complex environments.

Responsibilities include building deployments, testing, maintaining systems, and coordinating with vendors to ensure access, power, and cooling.

Qualifications

• Hands-on data center or colocation experience with large-scale networking and systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair failed hardware components and devices.
• Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for colocation facility teams on power, cooling, security, and access-related issues.
• Oversee third-party vendors and “Remote Hands” teams, ensuring proper access control and compliance.
• Perform regular physical site visits, audits, and verification that floor plans, rack elevations, power, and cabling documentation match the actual environment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and “tour-ready” data center environment (cable management, debris removal, etc.).
• Travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

• Build and verify deployments; conduct testing and checkout procedures.
• Maintain and support data center systems and infrastructure.
• Collaborate with Networking teams to troubleshoot and isolate faults.
