Job summary

JLL in Elk Grove Village, IL seeks a Data Center Operating Engineer to ensure reliable delivery of electrical and mechanical infrastructure in a 24/7 data center environment. You will monitor, maintain and perform preventive maintenance on UPS, generators, switchgear, chillers, HVAC, pumps and fire/life safety systems, document readings, and respond to incidents.

The role requires 2+ years in data centers, strong communication skills, and proficiency with MS Office, Google Suite and CMMS;

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in a data center/critical facility.
• Experience with building systems including UPS, emergency generators, and switchgear.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Suite and CMMS.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, monitor and perform preventive maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems to achieve 100% uptime (fire/life safety, mechanical systems such as HVAC, chillers, CRAH, CRAH, plumbing, controls), electrical including emergency backup systems (lighting, UPS, ATS, STS, PDU, generators, primary switchgear, power distribution, transformers), and hot water systems.
• Monitor operation, adjust and maintain refrigeration, chilled water and air conditioning equipment; boilers, ventilating and water heaters; pumps, valves, piping and filters; other mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Record readings and take corrective action to ensure proper operation; analyze system operation to determine causes of problems and escalate as required.
• Comply with hazardous materials storage and handling policies; maintain a clean and safe workplace.
• Manage site incidents and events, learn the data center site layout, and handle work orders using CMMS, vendor management, and customer-facing tickets.
