Job summary

JLL is seeking a Data Center Operating Engineer to join our Charlotte, NC team. You will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair critical facility equipment across electrical, mechanical, and control systems to ensure 100% uptime in a data center environment.

Responsibilities include monitoring building management systems, performing preventive maintenance, handling incident response, and coordinating with vendors and tenants.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• 4+ years related work experience.
• Systems, emergency generators, and switchgears.
• Demonstrated verbal/written communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or governmental regulations and codes.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before small groups of tenants or fellow employees.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Access and other software.
• Interact professionally with tenants and contractors.
• Able to work varied schedules and holidays.
• Must respond to site emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance and continuous operation of all data center systems to 100% uptime.
• Monitor operation of HVAC, electrical, and mechanical equipment and adjust as needed.
• Record readings and adjust to ensure proper operation.
• Monitor building management systems and respond to alarms promptly.
• Analyze operations to determine causes of malfunctions and take corrective action.
• Comply with hazardous materials policies and maintain a clean, safe workplace.
• Learn the data center site to manage incidents and events.
• Handle work orders, CMMS, vendor management, and customer-facing tickets.
• Follow emergency escalation procedures.
• Perform additional duties as required.
