Job summary

Rackspace Technology is hiring a Network Engineer 2 to perform hands-on, data-center-based work installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting physical network infrastructure. You will rack and stack hardware, cabling, SFPs, and optics, while documenting the physical plant and supporting operations teams in a 24x7 environment.

The role emphasizes Layer 1/2, with knowledge of OSI, TCP/IP, and core routing concepts. This is an on-site data center position with shift-based hours and on-call rotation.

Qualifications

• Basic OSI model knowledge with emphasis on physical Layer 1.
• Experience with structured cabling (copper and fiber) and termination/testing to standards.
• Familiarity with SFP/SFP+/QSFP transceivers and optics, and testing procedures.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and prioritize an internal ticketing system for network-related requests.
• Perform physical installation of network hardware according to design/build docs.
• Mount devices in cabinets and complete cabling to support maintenance requests.
• Install and test fiber/copper cabling and test connectivity to standards.
• Dress, label, and manage cabling and verify fiber light levels.
• Follow change management and safety policies; support 24x7 ops and on-call rotation.
