Job summary

Google is seeking a Data Center Mechanical Engineer to join our Charleston, SC Metro team. You will design and manage mechanical systems for data centers, collaborating with cross-functional teams and the Engineer of Record to meet safety, reliability, and efficiency standards.

This on-site role requires a Bachelor’s in engineering and 3+ years in critical facility design, with experience in HVAC, cooling, water systems, and data center operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3 years of experience in mission-critical facility design, construction environments, and their mechanical infrastructure.
• 3 years of experience with mechanical infrastructure systems such as HVAC, cooling systems, and water system engineering.
• 3 years of experience with data center operations and working with mechanical contractors and cross-functional project teams.
• 3 years of experience with electro/mechanical assembly and mechanical testing procedures including resolution and comprehensive documentation maintenance for mechanical designs.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical support to data center services and operations teams, defining mechanical system design requirements for multiple data center projects from inception to completion.
• Develop, implement, and manage the mechanical designs at the site level, starting from the basis of design through to the issuance of construction documents for new builds, infrastructure upgrades, and renovations.
• Collaborate effectively with the Engineer of Record (EOR) to respond to site-specific engineering Requests for Information (RFI) and ensure alignment between Google's requirements and the overall design.
• Work closely with the core engineering team to provide site‑specific requirements during the development of the Basis of Design (BOD) and coordinate system‑level schematics with the EOR.
• Own and manage site-level mechanical/cooling system issues during project execution, and maintain comprehensive documentation of all data center‑related mechanical and cooling system design requirements.
