Job summary

Google is seeking a Data Center Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design and implementation for our data centers. You will own site-level cooling and mechanical system aspects, coordinating with cross-functional teams and the Engineer of Record to ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency.

Based in the Charleston, SC area, you will contribute to developing basis of design, construction documents, and site-level specifications for new builds and upgrades.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3 years of experience in mission-critical facility design, construction environments, and their mechanical infrastructure.
• 3 years of experience with mechanical infrastructure systems such as HVAC, cooling systems, and water system engineering.
• 3 years of experience with data center operations and working with mechanical contractors and cross-functional project teams.
• 3 years of experience with electro/mechanical assembly and mechanical testing procedures including resolution and comprehensive documentation maintenance for mechanical designs.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical support to data center services and operations teams, defining mechanical system design requirements for multiple data center projects from inception to completion.
• Develop, implement, and manage the mechanical designs at the site level, from basis of design through to construction documents for new builds, upgrades, and renovations.
• Collaborate with the Engineer of Record (EOR) to respond to site-specific RFIs and align Google's requirements with the overall design.
• Work with the core engineering team to provide site-specific requirements during Basis of Design development and coordinate system-level schematics with the EOR.
• Own and manage site-level mechanical/cooling system issues during project execution and maintain documentation of all data center mechanical and cooling design requirements.
