Job summary

Google in the Charleston, SC metro area is seeking a Data Center Mechanical Engineer to design, implement, and manage critical cooling and mechanical systems for our data centers.

You will partner with cross-functional teams and the Engineer of Record to ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency, while adhering to local codes and Google's standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 3 years of experience in mission critical facility design, construction environments, and their mechanical infrastructure.
• 3 years of experience with mechanical infrastructure systems such as HVAC, cooling systems, and water system engineering.
• 3 years of experience with data center operations and working with mechanical contractors and cross-functional project teams.
• 3 years of experience with electro/mechanical assembly and mechanical testing procedures including resolution and comprehensive documentation maintenance for mechanical designs.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert mechanical design requirements for multiple data center projects from inception to completion.
• Develop, implement, and manage the mechanical designs at the site level, starting from the basis of design through to the issuance of construction documents for new builds, infrastructure upgrades, and renovations.
• Collaborate effectively with the Engineer of Record (EOR) to respond to site-specific engineering RFIs and ensure alignment between Google's requirements and the overall design.
• Work closely with the core engineering team to provide site-specific requirements during the development of the Basis of Design (BOD) and coordinate system-level schematics with the EOR.
• Own and manage site-level mechanical/cooling system issues during project execution, and maintain comprehensive documentation of all data center-related mechanical and cooling system design requirements.
