Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Data Center Application Electrical Engineer in Minneapolis, MN to provide early-stage design and technical support across pursuit, design, procurement, construction and commissioning for data center projects.

The role involves supporting the Supply Chain with equipment reviews, standardization efforts, and technical evaluations to ensure project performance objectives are met. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience leading program-level standards and cross-functional technical decisions.
• Experience supporting pursuits, design development, construction issue resolution, and commissioning/ turnover for critical power systems.

Responsibilities

• Review RFP/RFQ requirements and identify technical risks/clarifications.
• Provide application-level engineering support for electrical systems and equipment selection (MV/LV switchgear, generators, UPS, ATS, transformers, busway, PDUs, panelboards).
• Coordinate with designers, commissioning, construction, and vendors to resolve technical issues and field conditions.
• Review single-lines, layouts, sequences of operation, and commissioning tests to ensure alignment with standards.
• Support startup, testing, and turnover activities including submittals validation and factory/site witness testing.
• Demonstrate knowledge of substation design for data center projects including equipment specs and grounding.
• Perform ampacity studies for MV cables.
