Job summary

Data Center Frontier LLC seeks an on-site Data Center MEP Engineer in Minneapolis, MN to bridge Owners, Contractors and Operations for active data center sites. You will oversee design, construction, commissioning, and documentation across OpEx/CapEx projects, ensuring design intent and industry standards.

The ideal candidate has 3–5+ years in data center MEP, strong AutoCAD/Revit/BIM skills, and a solid understanding of HVAC, electrical systems, and BAS/BMS platforms.

Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of experience in data center construction, design, commissioning, or MEP engineering.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred (relevant experience also considered).
  • Experience with large data center construction, commissioning activities, MEP systems, AutoCAD / BIM documentation / Revit.

Responsibilities

  • Onsite / resident engineer for the engineering design team, ensuring design intent is upheld during construction, retrofits or upgrades.
  • Conduct site observations, document progress, and provide reports to the design team.
  • Support construction administration by reviewing RFIs, change orders, submittals, and specifications.
  • Participate in equipment inspections, factory witness testing, and vendor QA/QC visits.
  • Assist in coordinating site inspections and resolving field issues with contractors and vendors.
  • Attend design coordination workshops, commissioning (CxA) meetings, BIM coordination meetings, and owner-furnished contractor-installed (OFCI) vendor meetings.

Data Center MEP Engineer - Minneapolis, MN

This opportunity is working directly with a leading mission-critical data center developer / wholesaler / colo provider. This developer provides data center solutions custom-fit to the requirements of their client's mission-critical operational facilities. They provide reliability of mission-critical facilities for many of the world's largest organizations facilities supporting Enterprise Clients and Hyperscale Companies. We are looking for a Data Center Facility Engineer to support a critical data center. The onsite Engineer to be the "bridge" that connects the Owners, Contractors and Operations, toserve as the onsite engineering representative for an active data center colocation site and assist with any Capex / Opex design / build projects. This role will ensure seamless engineering design coordination and construction administration during any projects in addition to overseeing any retrofits or upgrades needed in an active data center operations environment. The ideal candidate will have a background in electrical or mechanical engineering with experience in data centers.The ideal candidate has experience with large data center construction, commissioning activities, MEP systems, AutoCAD / BIM documentation / Revit, and closeout deliverables. This is an onsite role responsible for ensuring quality, accuracy, and adherence to design intent while supporting seamless turnover of data center projects with both OpEx and CapEx oversight.

The role combines project closeout oversight, field engineering support, construction administration, design coordination, and documentation control. The Critical Facility Engineer will be responsible for monitoring compliance with contractual commitments, directing technical and administrative tasks related to the operation of the critical facility infrastructure and assuring compliance with company’s policies and procedures. The Data Center is a 7x24x365 a year operation.

Responsibilities:
  • Onsite / resident engineer for the engineering design team, ensuring design intent is upheld during construction, retrofits or upgrades
  • Conduct site observations, document progress, and provide reports to the design team
  • Support construction administration by reviewing RFI’s, change orders, submittals, and specifications
  • Participate in equipment inspections, factory witness testing, and vendor QA/QC visits
  • Assist in coordinating site inspections and resolving field issues with contractors and vendors
  • Attend design coordination workshops, commissioning (CxA) meetings, BIM coordination meetings, and owner-furnished contractor-installed (OFCI) vendor meetings
  • Participates in the preparation of analyses and reports on the data center infrastructure, develops project plans and conducts briefings and presentations
  • Review contractor installations for compliance with design specifications and industry standards
  • Provide technical expertise on mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring alignment with the Owner’s requirements
  • Assist in the creation, upkeep, and audit of data center operations and maintenance related processes
  • Ensure all processes and procedures are carried out with expedience and a high level of attention to detail
  • Support all levels of testing and commissioning (L1-L5)
  • Ensures that operational, maintenance and emergency methods of procedure (MOP’s and SOP’s) are developed and strictly adhered to
  • Review and respond to contractor RFIs with the goal of reducing unnecessary queries
  • Partner when necessary with subcontractors and vendors
  • Assist with CMMS database management
  • Verify compliance with Owner’s program and project deliverables
  • Generate appropriate monthly and on demand reporting for management and clients
  • Maintain accurate documentation of site activities, non-conformances, and testing results
  • Support the design team by providing real-time feedback on any construction projects
  • Ensure that lessons learned are documented and implemented in future projects
  • Identify areas for process and efficiency improvement within data center operations, recommend solutions, and assist in implementation
Qualifications:
  • 3-5 + years of experience in data center construction, design, commissioning, or MEP engineering
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred (relevant experience also considered)
  • EIT or PE license is a plus but not required
  • Strong understanding of MEP / Electrical / Mechanical Systems and Equipment in a data center environment: HVAC, CRAC/CRAH, Boilers, Chillers, cooling towers, Air handling units, Generators, UPS systems, Switchgear, ATS / STS units, PDUs, RPPs, Electrical Power Distribution, etc
  • Strong knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Building Automation Systems (BAS) preferred
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM for design reviews
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze field conditions and recommend solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with operations, internal stakeholders, external stakeholders, contractors, and engineering teams
  • A strong process orientation and superb organizational skills
  • Experience optimizing and documenting of operating processes including those related to maintenance, monitoring, reporting, and work-ticket management
  • MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Previous experience in the Military / Military Veterans a huge plus! Experience with Electrical / Mechanical: Navy nukes - EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, Army National Guard, etc.
