Job summary

PGTEK is seeking a Data Center Technician to deploy, install, configure, and support enterprise data center infrastructure. This role includes installing and positioning server racks, integrating server and network hardware, connecting power, and managing cabling during large-scale deployment projects.

This hands-on position requires strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in fast-paced data center environments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2–4 years IT or data center deployment experience.
• Experience placing, setting, leveling, and securing server racks.
• Experience connecting rack power to rack/facility power.
• Rack and stack deployments in enterprise data centers.
• Networking fundamentals and hardware connectivity experience.
• Configuring server and network hardware.
• Replacing hardware components (servers, switches, power supplies, drives).
• Strong cable management and structured cabling experience.
• Comfort with hand and power tools.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding work.
• Willingness to travel up to 60–70%.

Responsibilities

• Install, place, level, and secure server racks and cabinets according to deployment specs.
• Connect rack power to rack and facility power.
• Rack, stack, cable, and configure servers, switches, and data center infra.
• Perform hardware installation, upgrades, and break/fix activities.
• Install, route, label, and manage copper and fiber cabling with clean cable management.
• Support server and network hardware configuration and post-install validation.
• Assist with network connectivity and basic deployment troubleshooting.
• Read and follow deployment docs, rack elevations, and installation instructions.
• Stage, inventory, and prepare equipment for deployments.
• Operate material handling equipment as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, safe work environment.
• Adhere to OSHA and site safety requirements.
