Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. in Avondale, AZ, seeks a Data Center Chief Engineer to lead electrical and mechanical facilities maintenance for critical systems, ensuring uptime for AWS infrastructure.

You will oversee escalation, perform root-cause analysis, train technicians, and collaborate with Facility Managers to drive safety, efficiency, and reliability in a demanding data center environment. Travel between sites and occasional after-hours work are required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of electrical and/or mechanical facilities maintenance experience.
• Experience reading and writing procedures, technical documents, and engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary escalation point for facilities-related issues across critical systems.
• Oversee routine and emergency maintenance and service delivery per SLA.
• Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot facility issues.
• Train Engineering Operations Technicians and coordinate with Facility Manager to set team culture.
• Create and deploy new standard practices for engineering teams and vendor support.
• Assist in building out new facilities and projects to improve efficiency.
• Work outside normal hours for maintenance and emergency responses.
• Communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
• Coordinate with IT managers on projects, capacity, safety, and reliability.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed by vendors and staff.
• Establish performance benchmarks and prepare facility operation reports.
