Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) seeks a focused Data Center Chief Engineer to lead on-site electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety operations. You will maintain peak efficiency, manage preventative maintenance, and respond to emergencies while guiding engineers and external vendors.

You will act as the primary escalation point, drive training, and establish standard practices to ensure 99.999% uptime and safe, reliable data center performance across ongoing projects.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of electrical and mechanical facilities maintenance experience.
• Experience reading and writing procedures, technical documents, and engineering drawings.
• 3+ years of Microsoft Office products and applications experience.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary escalation point for facilities-related issues across critical systems.
• Perform root cause analyses and troubleshoot facility issues under SLA.
• Train and guide Engineering Operations Technicians; collaborate with Facility Manager to set team culture.
• Create and deploy standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
• Assist in the build out of new facilities and in projects to increase facility efficiency.
• Work outside normal hours for routine maintenance and emergency calls.
• Communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
• Coordinate projects with IT managers and business leaders to optimize safety and reliability.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed by vendors and Amazon staff.
• Establish performance benchmarks and report on facility ops.
• Utilize Excel, Word, Outlook for day-to-day tasks.
