Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) seeks a data and training coordinator to support documenting and communicating community engagement.   • Organize data entry efforts to ensure complete and consistent partnership documentation.
  • Design and deliver training sessions to build campus-wide capacity for using Collaboratory.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Division of CommunityEngagement at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is seekinga dynamic, collaborative, and highly organized Data and TrainingCoordinator to support and advance the university's efforts todocument, analyze, and communicate the breadth and impact ofcommunity engagement across VCU. This position is ideal for anindividual with experience working in a higher educationenvironment, particularly with faculty, and an understanding of thesystems, processes, and collaboration required to implementinstitution-wide initiatives.

The successful candidate will possess strong communication, projectcoordination, and technical skills, with the ability to leveragedata to inform decision-making, highlight institutional engagement,and develop meaningful reports, dashboards, and datavisualizations. An appreciation for community engagement and thevalue of partnerships across teaching, research, service, clinicalpractice, creative activities, and institutional collaboration isessential.

The coordinator's primary responsibility will be to support theimplementation and university-wide adoption of Collaboratory, VCU's web-based platform for documenting community engagement andpartnerships. The coordinator will work collaboratively withfaculty and staff to facilitate training, provide technical anduser support, promote consistent data collection and reporting, andcontribute to the successful implementation of this institutionalinitiative. In addition, the coordinator will support broaderDivision initiatives through project coordination, communications,training, data reporting, and operational support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serves as the lead coordinator for VCU’s implementation and useof Collaboratory, the Division’s primary platform for documentingcommunity-university partnerships.
  • Builds relationships with faculty, staff, and researchpersonnel to support their understanding of partnershipdocumentation and facilitate their use of Collaboratory forcapturing their community-engaged activities.
  • Provides support and guidance to faculty and staff for enteringtheir own partnership information into Collaboratory, includingthrough one-on-one assistance, group support sessions, and trainingmaterials.
  • Organizes and oversees data entry efforts by workingcollaboratively with faculty, staff, and research teams to ensurethat partnership documentation is consistent, complete, andreflects the breadth of university engagement.
  • Designs and delivers training, workshops, and individualizedsupport sessions to build campus-wide capacity for usingCollaboratory and understanding its purpose.
  • Uses qualitative and quantitative data—paired with strongvisualization—to translate engagement activity into visible,accessible records and compelling narratives that reflect bothindividual contributions and broader unit- and university-levelimpact.
  • Develops data visualizations, dashboards, reports, and othercommunication materials that effectively demonstrate the breadth,depth, and impact of VCU's community engagement.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education andexperience
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environmentof respect, professionalism and civility with a population offaculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds andexperiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member atVCU.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills,with comfort leading trainings and interacting across academicdisciplines and roles. Proven ability to manage complex projectsindependently and collaboratively.
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to connect faculty/staffcommunity engagement partnership efforts to institutionalpriorities and community impact.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree; MPH or a degree in Public Administration,Education, Social Work, Data Science/Analytics or a related fieldis preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in community-engaged work, highereducation engagement, or partnership coordination.
  • Demonstrated experience with data visualization and the toolsused to produce it (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker Studio, R,Python, or comparable), including building dashboards and visualreports for non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated understanding that collecting, analyzing, andvisually sharing information about community partnerships isimportant for showing impact and telling the story of that work tocommunity members.
Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a connector and datastoryteller—someone who understands that documenting partnershipsis not just about systems but about supporting people in tellingtheir stories and making their work visible. This individual shouldbe comfortable navigating academic environments, curious aboutdifferent forms of engagement, passionate about building a cultureof reflection and recognition around community partnerships, aswell as managing the data entry and management details necessary tomaintain a living, growing database. While the coordination ofCollaboratory will be a major and ongoing responsibility, this roleis fundamentally about strengthening the systems and relationshipsthat allow VCU faculty and staff to more fully document and assesscommunity partnerships.

Salary Range

Up to $65,000 commensurate withexperience
