Department Summary
Under the direction of the Employer Development Manager, theEmployer Development Coordinator will manage the recruitmentdatabase, coordinate the review/approval of new employers seekingto engage with VCU, and assist in developing and leading on-campusrecruitment planning with particular emphasis on student-employerengagement. They will steward relationships with employers toincrease recruiting opportunities and outcomes for students,facilitate organizational visits related to employment andexperiential opportunities, and evaluate employer needs to bestrefer them for engagement opportunities. This position also assistsin efforts to maintain campus recruiting policies for students,employers, faculty and staff in accordance with professionalstandards.
Members of the VCU Career Services team regularly engage inprofessional development, including in-house and external trainingand conference opportunities, to make sure we are able to bestserve students and alumni, to stay current with industry standardsand changes, to revise programs and services to reflect trends, andto increase our office’s visibility, both at VCU and on a broaderscale.
Core Responsibilities:
Project Management and Collaboration (45%)
- Coordinate with the Employer & Experiential DevelopmentTeam with the execution of campus career fairs. This includes, butis not limited to employer invitations, registration, day-of-fairlogistics, and communications regarding career fairs.
- Coordinate employer-related On-Campus Recruiting visits, whichcan include information tables, on campus interviews, classroompresentations, panel discussions, and networking events in supportof engagement plans.
- Schedule and confirm visits with employers and ensure they haveall necessary information for their visit (parking passes,scheduling issues, etc.), and follow up with employers after theirvisit as necessary.
- Work with Operations Coordinator and SEMSS Marketing Team,utilizing appropriate processes so that event marketing can becreated and distributed to employers and students asappropriate.
- Coordinate with other campus units productively incollaboration of VCU Career Services.
- Implement, review, and enforce campus recruiting guidelines inconjunction with the Employer and Experiential DevelopmentTeam.
- Adhere to principles of professional conduct and ethics asoutlined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers(NACE), including but not limited to:
- Engage with employer partners to promote equitable pay/wages,fair recruitment and hiring practices, mentoring and management,and professional development.
- Implement, review and enforce employer recruitmentpolicies.
- Providing resources for all those engaged in career advisingand recruitment to promote informed and responsible decisionmaking.
Relationship Development and Management (25%):
- Serve as first-line communication and reception with employersand external partners through virtual, phone, and in-personmediums
- Orient employer partners to VCU, VCU Career Services, and ourHandshake system so they can make informed decisionsaboutengagement and be prepared to effectively post and follow up onexperiential and employment opportunities, actively promotingon-campus and virtual recruitment of students.
- Disseminate information regarding new employers to otherEmployer & Experiential Development Team members to supportindividual engagement plan development based on appropriateportfolio areas.
- Provide outstanding customer service in accordance with teamstandards to both internal and external customers by consideringhow actions or plans will affect partners; follow through onresponsibilities to partners. Responds with appropriate urgency,flexibility, courtesy and good judgment to meet customer needs andresolve problems.
Technology Management (25%):
- Work independently and with minimal errors to ensure accurateand timely entry of data, employer and posting approvals,troubleshooting, and communications with employers in the Handshakesystem.
- Lead new employer account review/approval with support from EEDGraduate Intern, as well as updating employer permissions,internship and experiential posting approvals in Handshake, asneeded.
- Troubleshoot employer experience with the database, answeringquestions in a timely and efficient manner with minimal to nosupport.
Supervision (5%):
- Directly supervise, hire, train, evaluate and provide workdirection and problem solving assistance for studentemployees.
- Communicate regularly with the Front Desk Coordinator andstudent staff to ensure seamless experience for students andemployers.
- Contribute actively to the development, adaptation, andimplementation of the VCU Career Services Strategic Plan throughcollaboration and project work.
Other Position Details:
- This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with upto 20% weekly telework.
- This is a restricted position. Continued employment iscontingent upon continued funding.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of educationtraining and experience
- Familiarity with the higher education environment.
- Superb customer service skills with a keen attention todetail.
- Strong organizational skills required to balance a variety oftasks and manage multiple priorities. Must deploy multi-taskingskills in a very busy office environment.
- Employs tact when interacting with individuals at all levels,both on the university campus and in the business community.
- Effective communication skills (includes both written andoral); ability to act with diplomacy, and tact.
- Working knowledge of MS Office (includes Word, Excel,PowerPoint) and Google Mail/Calendar. Beginning level is required;an intermediate level is desired.
- Ability to use database systems, e.g. Handshake, Symplicity, aswell as project management systems, e.g. AirTable, Asana
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, and negotiation skills, aswell as the ability to synthesize new information, incorporate, andapply to across tasks
- Ability to handle confidential situations properly and manageconfidential data appropriately.
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a University Career Center or career servicesoffice on a college campus
- Experience with Handshake or similar Career Services databasesystems
- Experience with project management systems and recordkeeping
- Prior experience supervising part-time, full-time, or studentstaff members.
Salary Range:
Up to $40,000
