The Food Policy Data Analyst will support the Food Policy Council in building a data-driven understanding of the District’s food system. The position will establish indicators, data sources, and tools needed to monitor the food system over time, build and maintain public-facing dashboards that track key metrics across food access, the local food economy, supply chain, and other Food Policy Council priority areas. The position will work closely with District agencies, Food Policy Council members, and community partners to ensure food system data is accurate, accessible and used to inform program and policy decisions.
Utilizes databases of information to create program reports, assures integrity of data, and utilizes software programs for retrieval of historical data, requests for information, summary reports and ad hoc analyses. Develops approaches and prepares analytical reports on performance measures, goals, milestones, trends, and improvements. Compiles trend data for required quarterly reporting and participates in management review of reported data and trends. Provides guidance and assists in the implementation of data-sharing with stakeholders, internal and external to DCH. Interprets and applies analytical techniques to procedures to enhance processing, reporting and query capabilities to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Captures, develops, and documents data definitions, rules, data quality requirements, and logical and physical data models based on program requirements. Performs data cleaning and data validation and verification. Determines the most effective approach to data collection and validation, and works independently to obtain needed data. Develops and applies analytical techniques to assist the agency in meeting its grant/research reporting and analysis and value-added intelligence product development objectives. Ensures the quality of deliverables (processes, procedures, reports, data extracts, audit logs) related to requirements, design, implementation, testing, and adherence to reporting standards.
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal line of progression.
Three to five years of experience in data analysis, applied research or GIS including experience working with data sources related to food systems or public health is strongly preferred.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, or Public Health is preferred. However a master’s degree in Public Health (with a concentration in biostatistics or epidemiology) is preferred.
A GIS Professional Certification, Esri technical certification, or data analytics certification is preferred.
The incumbent must be able to carry out official duties in a variety of settings and conditions.Routine work will occur primarily in an office setting.
