Job summary

Bandera Electric Cooperative (BEC) is seeking a Data Analyst to turn energy and demand-response data into clear reports, dashboards, and analyses that support day-to-day program decisions.

Reporting to the Energy Services Director, you will build recurring reports, validate data quality, and translate complex data into actionable insights for scheduling, bids, and performance benchmarking.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience producing reports or dashboards or analyzing operational data.
  • Experience writing SQL queries against relational databases.
  • Familiarity with electric utility or cooperative operations.
  • Familiarity with demand response, distributed energy resources, or ERCOT data.
  • Experience with Apolloware or comparable utility/energy platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain demand-response dashboards and recurring reports — event count, thermostat and battery participation, estimated MWh, member savings, and 4CP versus non-4CP value.
  • Validate all reports and dashboards for data accuracy before distribution.
  • Maintain documentation for all reporting solutions, including data sources, logic, and refresh schedules.
  • Update reports and dashboards promptly when underlying data or program needs change.
  • Analyze event outcomes, enrollment trends, and forecast accuracy; surface anomalies and trends.
  • Prepare the data views that inform the weekly schedule, the monthly bid cycle, and the season benchmark.
  • Build lightweight, self-serve connections (Power Query, scheduled refreshes, direct queries) to pull program data for reporting and benchmarking.
  • Do not build or own production pipelines feeding the bid or validation path; durable, shared data infrastructure remains with the data and reconciliation engineer.
  • Support analysis only; do not certify capacity, prepare or approve bids, or serve as the validation gate.
  • Route platform issues through the Program Manager rather than directly to the developer or vendor.
  • Work with Energy Services staff and the Program Manager to understand reporting needs and translate them into useful views.
  • Provide clear status updates on in-progress work at regular intervals or upon request.
  • Contribute to program planning and continuous-improvement efforts.
  • As time allows and as assigned, provide the same reporting, dashboard, and analysis support to other departments across the cooperative.

Job description

Come join us at Bandera Electric Cooperative (BEC) and BEC Fiber, where we are lighting the grid to empower our members! Help us Reimagine Rural America! Bandera Electric Cooperative proudly distributes electricity to members across seven counties in Central Texas. The BEC Fiber division began offering 100% fiber broadband in 2017 and currently provides fiber internet service to members and subscribers in eight counties in the Texas Hill Country. We offer Highly Competitive Wages and a Generous Benefit Package!! (no waiting period – benefits start on first day). Paid time off and ten paid holidays. BEC is seeking a Data Analyst who turns the cooperative’s energy and demand-response data into clear reports, dashboards, and analysis that support day-to-day program decisions and season performance. Working within the Demand Response Program and the broader Energy Services team, this role builds and maintains the recurring reporting the program relies on, analyzes trends and outcomes, and prepares the data views that feed scheduling, go/no-go, and bid decisions. This position reports to the Energy Services Director, with program work directed by the Demand Response Program Manager. It supports program decisions; it does not own the bid-approval, capacity-certification, or validation steps that the program reserves to other roles. A working knowledge of electric power distribution and demand-response concepts is expected.

Essential Job Duties
  • Build and maintain demand-response performance dashboards and recurring reports — event count, thermostat and battery participation, estimated MWh, member savings, and 4CP versus non-4CP value — benchmarked against the prior-year baseline
  • Validate all reports and dashboards for data accuracy before distribution
  • Maintain documentation for all reporting solutions, including data sources, logic, and refresh schedules
  • Update reports and dashboards promptly when underlying data or program needs change
  • Analyze event outcomes, enrollment trends, and forecast accuracy; surface anomalies and trends
  • Prepare the data views that inform the weekly schedule, the monthly bid cycle, and the season benchmark
  • Build lightweight, self-serve connections (Power Query, scheduled refreshes, direct queries) to pull program data for reporting and benchmarking
  • Do not build or own production pipelines feeding the bid or validation path; durable, shared data infrastructure remains with the data and reconciliation engineer
  • Support analysis only; do not certify capacity, prepare or approve bids, or serve as the validation gate
  • Route platform issues through the Program Manager rather than directly to the developer or vendor
  • Work with Energy Services staff and the Program Manager to understand reporting needs and translate them into useful views
  • Provide clear status updates on in-progress work at regular intervals or upon request
  • Contribute to program planning and continuous-improvement efforts
  • As time allows and as assigned, provide the same reporting, dashboard, and analysis support to other departments across the cooperative
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (KSA’s)
  • Working knowledge of data analytics, business intelligence, reporting, dashboard design, and data visualization principles.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases, SQL, Power BI, Power Query, Excel, and data-quality practices.

  • Knowledge of forecasting, trend analysis, KPI development, and documentation standards.
  • Knowledge of data governance and documentation best practices
  • Strong data analysis, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in developing reports, dashboards, visualizations, and SQL queries.
  • Strong data-validation, documentation, and quality-control skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, including the ability to explain technical information to nontechnical audiences.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret complex data, identify trends and anomalies, and translate findings into actionable insights.
  • Ability to understand business needs and develop practical reporting and analytical solutions.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Energy Services, the Demand Response Program Manager, and other departments.
  • Ability to adapt reports and dashboards as data sources, program needs, and priorities change.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain accuracy, and protect confidential or sensitive information.
