Job summary

Rayburnelectric is looking for an analyst to support the Power Supply team by evaluating wholesale market conditions and assisting in energy procurement strategies. Job description

Provides analytical and operational support to Rayburn Country Electric Cooperative, Inc.’s (Rayburn’s) Power Supply team by evaluating wholesale market conditions, forecasting demand, and assisting in energy procurement strategies. This role plays a key part in monitoring market risks, optimizing portfolio performance, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal risk management policies. Collaborates across internal teams and external partners to support market operations, settlements, and reporting activities. Contributes to data-driven decision-making to enhance reliability, cost efficiency, and overall power supply strategy.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities / Knowledge

  • Analyzes wholesale power market activity to include Day-Ahead and Real-Time pricing, congestion, and ancillary service impacts.
  • Develops and maintains short and long-term forecasts using historical demand, weather, economic, and operational data.
  • Supports energy procurement and hedging strategies through market analysis and risk assessment.
  • Monitors market positions, resource performance, and system conditions to identify operational and financial risks.
  • Prepares daily, weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reports related to load, pricing, congestion, settlements, and market exposure.
  • Analyzes ERCOT market rule changes and assess operational or financial impacts to the cooperative.
  • Maintains, with third parties as needed, Rayburn’s portfolio and analytical models, databases, and reporting tools to properly quantify risk.
  • Adheres to Rayburn’s compliance with power supply hedging and risk management policies.
  • Continues to grow a deeper understanding of the ERCOT nodal market to properly capture market opportunities within the portfolio.
  • Supports the development of the cost-of-service analysis (COSA) rates and rate schedules.
  • Coordinates with internal and external parties regarding market operations, settlements, scheduling, and forecasting activities to analyze billing impacts, as well as assisting with validation of settlements statements, meter data, and invoice reconciliation.

Job Related Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Experience:

1-5 years Prior nodal modeling and analytics is preferred.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of wholesale electric markets and ERCOT market structure preferred.
  • Ability to interpret large datasets and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Experience and working knowledge of the US electric transmission grid preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to an inclusive and collaborative leadership style that is strong in teamwork.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time at a computer workstation.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions to use a computer keyboard, test equipment, and operate hand tools.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds; open file cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
