Job summary

Handshake Labs is hiring a Member of Technical Staff to advance data systems for frontier model training. You will work with researchers, domain experts, and compliance teams to design, implement, and scale data pipelines, with emphasis on synthetic data and privacy-preserving techniques.

You will contribute to a fast-moving environment with ownership and strong emphasis on code quality, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration across SF and Mountain View locales.

Qualifications

• 2–10 years of experience in synthetic/LLM-generated data, post-training and model-evaluation work, privacy engineering, or data anonymization/de-identification at scale.
• Hands-on individual contributor track record; not a team lead or manager.
• Strong Python skills and ability to write clean, scalable software for large, real-world datasets.
• Sound judgment for data quality, risk, and utility; form hypotheses and choose meaningful metrics.
• Experience designing systems with tradeoffs around quality, scale, reliability, and reuse.
• Comfort in ambigous, fast-moving environments with ownership.
• Collaborative, low-ego communication with researchers, engineers, domain experts, and customers.

Responsibilities

• Design and build systems to improve data quality, scale, and safety for frontier model training, including synthetic data generation and data anonymization/PII removal.
• Translate research, partner, or compliance needs into hypotheses, experiments, evaluation plans, and production-grade implementations.
• Build and improve data-processing pipelines, evaluation frameworks, benchmarks, and quality-control systems.
• Run rapid iteration loops: prototype, evaluate, interpret results, and translate learnings into new systems or products.
• Collaborate with researchers, domain experts, and legal/compliance teams to ensure high-utility, responsibly handled data.
• Identify repeatable patterns and productize them into reusable software and platforms.
• Raise the technical bar with design judgment, clear communication, code quality, and mentorship.
