Job summary

Scale is seeking a Data Acquisition Lead in San Francisco to own the end‑to‑end commercial motion for sourcing data. You will identify domains worth owning, design deal structures with the legal team, and close signed agreements, while translating commercial needs to the Research and data teams.

You will work closely with senior stakeholders, invent new go‑to‑market motions, and build a repeatable pipeline from first principles in a fast, ambiguous AI environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years across business development, corp dev, commercial strategy, or early GTM.
• Track record of building a commercial motion that didn't exist before you got there.
• Strong external relationships management.
• Clear communication with senior stakeholders.
• Independent while staying connected to cross-functional teams.
• Hands-on approach to building new functions from the ground up.
• Experience in AI, data infrastructure, marketplaces, or high-growth tech.
• Familiarity with post-training, RL, evals, or synthetic data.
• Experience with data licensing, IP, or regulated data.
• Experience collaborating with Legal and Finance on complex agreements.

Responsibilities

• Map the supply side by building a thesis on domains worth owning and the order to pursue them.
• Invent the deal structures with Scale’s legal team.
• Close deals from cold outreach to signature.
• Coordinate with the technical side to discuss what makes a dataset trainable.
• Build the machine by hand first, then turn learnings into a repeatable pipeline.
