Job summary

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles seeks a DAS Lead Engineer to provide senior technical leadership for OnBase content and automation initiatives. This full-time role reports to the DAS Manager and focuses on designing, integrating, and governing enterprise content and workflow solutions that support DMV operations and digital modernization.

You will collaborate with business units to identify automation opportunities, ensure security and reliability, and monitor performance.

Job Duties

The VA Department of Motor Vehicles is looking to hire a Digital Application Solution (DAS) Lead Engineer for a full-time position with its IT Services administration. This position is open to current DMV employees only. Reporting to the Digital Application Solution Manager, the DAS Lead Engineer provides senior-level technical leadership and enterprise oversight for the agency's OnBase content and Automation and Power management platform. The role ensures the effective design, administration, governance, integration, and lifecycle delivery of enterprise content and workflow solutions that support agency operations, digital modernization, compliance, and service delivery. Additionally, the incumbent in this position develops, identifes and evaluates automation opportunities in partnership with business areas, ensures automation solutions meet security, reliability, and governance standards and Monitors automation performance, reliability, and exception handling. The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, serves approximately 6.2 million licensed drivers and ID card holders with over 8.4 million registered vehicles. In addition, DMV serves a wide array of businesses, including dealers, fuels tax customers, rental companies, driving schools, other state agencies, local governments, and non-profit organizations. Minimum Qualifications
  • Expert knowledge of enterprise content management, document management, workflow automation, and records-supporting solution design (e.g. OnBase, Microsoft Power Platform, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise systems architecture, integration methods, security controls, release management, and production support practices.
  • Strong knowledge of business analysis, process redesign, requirements translation, and solution lifecycle management.
  • Working knowledge of data structures, reporting, application interfaces, authentication/authorization concepts, and enterprise support models.
  • Knowledge of governance, auditability, records alignment, privacy, and internal control principles relevant to document-centric systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, vendors, or matrixed project resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with business leadership and technical stakeholders.
Additional Considerations
  • Experience supporting public sector, regulated, or highly auditable environments.
  • Experience with document capture, case management, reporting, workflow automation, and platform upgrade planning.
  • Relevant platform, records, project, or architecture certifications as applicable.
