Job summary

Brigham Young University (BYU) is hiring a part-time Technical Director for the Department of Dance to support lighting, scenery, audio, and rigging for performances and tours. The role includes mentoring students and coordinating production elements across CFAC stages and campus venues.

The Associate Technical Director collaborates with artistic directors and designers, estimates material and labor costs, and supervises props and set construction while maintaining budgets and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in technical theatre or related field.
• Experience in professional theatre, live entertainment, and/or touring productions.
• Demonstrated experience working with scenic and prop designers.
• Ability to read and interpret working drawings.
• Ability to work long hours and irregular schedules including weekends and holidays.
• Training and understanding of safe working practices in theatre.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Artistic Directors, directors, designers, and production management to support development and realization of scenery and props.
• Evaluate designs and develop material and labor estimates while maximizing available resources.
• Coordinate with designers to solve problems and implement changes.
• Supervise purchasing, construction, painting, finishing, and installation of scenery and props.
• Manage production budgets, materials, labor, and records.
• Coordinate technical needs throughout construction, rehearsals, performances, and events.
• Maintain production research, documentation, and archives.
• Foster a culture of mentorship and experiential learning for students through campus productions and tours.
