Job summary

Idaho Department of Water Resources in Boise invites applications for the Dam Safety Program Manager (Engineer, Technical 2). This role directs Idaho’s statewide Safety of Dams program, guiding inspection, evaluation, operation, maintenance, and regulatory oversight of dams and mine tailings impoundments.

Candidates must hold Idaho PE licensure (or eligibility) and a valid driver’s license, with strong written and oral communication skills and experience coordinating with agencies and owners.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include Idaho PE licensure or eligibility for comity licensure.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Experience coordinating with state and federal agencies on dam safety.
• Ability to review engineering reports and plans.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage Idaho’s statewide Safety of Dams Program consistent with Idaho Code and administrative rules.
• Inspect dams, reservoirs, and mine tailings impoundment structures for safety compliance.
• Review design plans and specs for dam construction, repairs, and enlargements.
• Review inspection reports and prepare Certificates of Approval for continued operation.
• Coordinate with dam owners, engineers, local governments and federal agencies on safety issues.
• Review Emergency Action Plans for high hazard dams and participate in exercises.
• Administer FEMA National Dam Safety Program grants and reporting.
• Prepare technical memoranda, reports and program summaries related to dam safety.
• Provide statewide guidance and ensure consistency across offices.
• Respond to public inquiries and investigate safety concerns.
