Job summary

MercyOne Central Iowa seeks a Cytotechnologist to perform cytology procedures and quality control in a fast-paced laboratory. You will prepare slides, review gynecologic and non-gynecologic samples, and ensure timely, accurate results. The role includes training new staff and applying LEAN principles.

Required are a science bachelor’s, accredited cytotech program, and CT(ASCP) certification (exam within 6 months). Proficiency in Word/Excel and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science-related field required.
• Accredited cytotechnology program completed.
• Certification as Cytotechnologist CT (ASCP) required; must register for exam within 6 months of hire.
• Proficiency in Word/Excel; strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
• Knowledge of federal, state and regulatory standards preferred.

Responsibilities

• Visually evaluate and assist with collection of cell samples from diverse ages.
• Perform diagnostic cytology procedures to produce reliable results.
• Prepare slides including pap smears, body fluids, BAL, brushings, washings, FNAs, cyst fluids, CSF, urine.
• Examine non-gynecologic and gynecologic slides for infections, pre-malignant, malignant processes.
• Troubleshoot equipment and resolve technical issues; monitor cytology cases for turnaround time.
• Follow quality control measures and train new employees; utilize LEAN principles.
