Job summary

Labcorp in Mobile, AL is seeking a Cytotechnologist to join our team. The role involves screening and evaluating gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens to identify malignant or abnormal conditions, with emphasis on accuracy and timely reporting.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science, completed a Cytology program, and ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT) certification. Preference given to those with CT certification and strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Cytology Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
• Completion of a Cytology program.
• ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT) Certification.

Responsibilities

• Screen and evaluate gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens for malignant or related abnormal conditions.
• Screening of liquid based cytology, both manual and imaged, as well as conventional slides.
• Perform microscopic evaluation of cytological specimens following laboratory procedures and policies.
• Ensure proper documentation of workload recording, including screening and non-screening activities as required by CLIA and laboratory guidelines.
• Maintain absolute integrity in the accurate performance and reporting of results.
• Meet slide screening requirements as per standard operating procedure.
• Finalize testing results into the computer in an accurate and timely manner.
• Provide backup for cytology processing and other tasks as needed.
• Comply with all safety, infection control and HIPAA policies.

Education

Labcorp is seeking a Cytotechnologist to join our team in Mobile, AL.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30AM - 4:00PM

Job Responsibilities

• Screen and evaluate any gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens sent to the laboratory for the determination of possible malignant or related abnormal conditions
• Screening of all liquid based cytology, both manual and imaged, as well as conventional slides
• Perform microscopic evaluation of cytological specimens following laboratory procedures and policies

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Cytology Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
• Completion of a Cytology program
• ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT) Certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters’ degree in Cytology
• 3 months or more of Cytology experience
• ThinPrep and SurePath certifications

Additional Job Standards

• Able to pass slide screening requirements and annual CAP proficiency test
• Demonstrated understanding of Cyto preparation techniques
• Automated and non-automated testing experience
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
• Experience in a high volume clinical laboratory environment
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
