Job description

Position Summary

Labcorp is seeking a Cytogenetics Technologist to join our team in Brentwood, TN.

Work Schedule

Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00am – 6:30pm

Responsibilities

• Perform routine procedures including tissue culture, harvesting, slide making and banding, automated karyotyping, reagent preparation, and FISH processing, probing, and scoping.
• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental standard operating procedures.
• Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
• Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.
• Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
• Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology with 1year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• Or Bachelor’s degree in Cytogenetics.
• Or an MLS degree.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience in cytogenetic/FISH.
• Certification by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) in Cytogenetics (CLSp‑CG).
• ASCP or AMT certification.

Additional Job Standards

• Education requirements may be met by non‑traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards.
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures.
• Experience working in a high‑volume laboratory environment.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Proficient with computers and familiar with laboratory information systems.
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position.
• Ability to pass a standardized color blindness test.
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
